Service Brings Blessings and Happiness

This week was super crazy. I was emergency transferred last minute to
the Palatka second ward because sister Tryon had to go home for a
transfer do to medical issues. Now I'm in a trio with Sister Warr and
Sister Colson. They are pretty great. It's kinda weird being in a
trio, but super awesome at the same time. We are getting lots of
miracles. We are teaching a family with a deaf daughter and they are
awesome and we really hope we can help the parents so that they can
raise their kids in the gospel. We also found a guy named Bill while
we were knocking doors he was out fixing his car. We asked if we could
show him a video and he said yes just give him a minute to finish what
he was doing. While he finished up he told us about how he really
started to make God apart of his life again when his wife left him. He
has awesome kids that he gets on the weekends and he wants God to be
apart of their life as well. We showed him the because of him video
from Mormon.org and he said that he loved it! He asked if we had
anymore videos about Christ and we gave him a card with the Mormon.org
website and told him about all the videos he could find there. We
talked about how God loves us just as much as he did back during the
times of the bible and so he has continued to give us prophets with
the priesthood who lead and guide us today and how we can pray about
the Book of Mormon and God will answer our prayer. He was so excited
he said that he wanted to come to church with us the next day, but
said he had to work, he said he would make sure to come next week. We
gave him a restoration pamphlet to read and told him next time we
would bring a Book of Mormon to give to him. He asked if we had more
Mormon.org cards. He said he wanted to take them to work tomorrow and
share them with his friends at work. He is so awesome we will get to
see him again on Saturday. We are also teaching a lady from second
ward and I feel a real connection with her. She is a war veteran and
is an amazing women. She served as an army nurse for 20 years. She
suffers from sever PTSD. Six years ago her base was attacked and she
watched as men came in and shot the wounded she was attending to and
killed all the women after doing horrible things to them. She was left
laying on the ground and they thought she was dead. Her two military
service dogs saved her life by laying on her wounds to keep from
bleeding out and licking her face to keep her conscious. It was truly
a miracle. She struggles a lot with what happened, but Christ is
really helped her to heal from what she has lived through and we are
currently working the path to forgiveness for the people that did
these things to her. She is truly amazing. The people of Palatka have
all really gone through so much. Most don't have much, but they treat
us like Queens. A recent convert named George just got baptized about
a month ago. He signs up to feed us twice a month. We know he barley
has any money. Him and his wife life in a tiny trailer and have very
little means. One day we asked him why he feeds us and he said that if
he could he would feed us everyday, but this is the best he can do. It
is so amazing the example he gives me. This week was a good week and I
am so grateful for all the members that have done so much for all the
missionaries all over the world. If you want to do more to help the
work ask the missionaries there is so much you have to offer. You can
go out on splits with them, you can open up your homes for lessons,
you can ask who the missionaries are expecting at church today and
look for them and make sure they have some greeting them and have a
friend in the church. Service brings so much happiness. Without the
blessing from service missions would not be possible. They are hard,
the hardest thing I have ever done. Sometimes I want to just give up
and go home, but then I receive great comfort and blessings. My life
dream was to change the world. There is nothing else greater that I
could do then to help my brothers and sisters be with their families
forever!

Crazy Week...And Happy Birthday Mom!!

This week was really crazy. We had to go to the doctor a lot and we were told by the doctor and president lee to stay inside and not work. Sister Tryon is being sent home for medical leave due to needing surgery for her cyst. The doctors are really worried that if her cyst pops or it twists she'll need emergency surgery so we can't go out and strain it. I'm not really sure what is gonna happen to me. I'm obviously going to need a new trainer and I don't know if I'll be staying in Palatka. We got to have some miracles even though we haven't been able to go out. We taught Sister Tryon's gynecologist about the priesthood and the Book of Mormon and he said he really we wanted to read it and he committed to pray about it. It was really awesome. Also we got to work on our members board so that when new missionaries come into the area they know who is active, who isn't, who likes to go out with the missionaries, who doesn't want the missionaries to visit, who is a recent convert, and the things we are working on with each member. I think it is going to be really helpful to the people who come in especially if both of us have to leave the area. I am learning a lot about my life after the mission while I'm here. I'm learning how to get along with a companion, how to cook meals, I'm learning how I want to raise my family and teach my children, and I'm learning how to bring God into a relationship. I am so excited to be able to use all these things when I come home.

Monopoly and the 4th of July

Dear family and friends,
This week was pretty awesome especially because last P-day I got to go
to the fountain of youth with some members from the ward I'm serving
in. Me and my companion had a really fun time taking crazy pictures.
On Monday we taught Arthur again he works on Sunday's, but we taught
him that if he makes church a priority everything will work out and he
will still be able to support his family. Tuesday we had to go to the
doctor so sister Tryon could get an ultrasound. She looks like she's
pregnant, but she isn't so the doctors want to know what it is. Turns
out there is a giant cyst on one of her ovaries that's just a little
larger than a softball. Hopefully we can get it taken care of soon.
Wednesday we met President and Sister Lee. They are so awesome and I
am so excited to get to know them better. We also started a game of
monopoly with my zone and so far me and sister Tryon are killing it.
On Saturday we invited 22 people to church and 4 of the people we
invited came!!! It was super awesome. I have also been thinking about
some of my extended family back home. I want them to know that if you
are struggling with anything or you need help the lord is waiting to
receive you. There is no shame asking for help he already suffered for
you all you have do is use what tools he has provided for you. Meet
with the missionaries even if you don't join the church find out for
yourself if it is true. Read from the Book of Mormon and ask god if
it's true. He will answer you and bless you with so much more. The
missionaries will help bring you peace and help you find what you are
looking for from God.

Outside our car after it started raining

We hung out on P-Day with some of the other missionaries, and crowded onto a golf cart. It was pretty fun!

P-day numero dos!

Yea P-day!!! This week has been crazy. Me and Sister Tryon get along
great and hopefully will stay great friends after the mission. Our
only struggle is I'm not exactly a huge fan of the rules and sister
Tryon could talk about how much she loves them for hours and hours
(can you tell she went to BYU yet?)
I still get kinda homesick and
really can't help, but think about all the fun things that I wanna do
when I get home. You will never appreciate movies and entertainment
until all you have to do for fun during your down time is watch Mormon
messages on a loop. Right now we are teaching a guy named Arthur and
he is great. He's an older black man who told us last lesson that if
God tells him the Book of Mormon is true he'll get baptized. We are
hoping to be able to set a date with him tonight. We are also teaching
a recent convert( baptized last October) and we are preparing her to
go through the temple and have her be sealed to her family. I'm so
excited for her I wish we could go to the temple with her.
This week we also got  to have a movie night where we invite our investigators,
new converts, and members so they can have a good time and get to know
each other outside of a church setting. We had lots of fun.
So far it's been wicked hot here and so humid you're  basically swimming. The
first thing we do before we leave the house is put on 100 spf
sunscreen and deet 100 bug spray and some how I still end up with bug
bites and sunburns. Also the bugs here are giant! Like grasshoppers
are as big as my whole hand and spiders are a serious fright. The cool
thing though is there are also lots of reptiles. I've caught a lot of
lizards and a snake (not poison) but no gators yet :/ today some
members are taking us to St. Augustine and taking us to the tourist
spots. It should be lots of fun.

Trainer and Trainee!!

Sister Kilpack and her trainer Sister Tryon

Sister Kilpack has a new Companion! Her name is Sister Tryon and she's from Redmond, WA and Sister Kilpack loves her!

Yes I did make it out to Florida and Sister Tryon is awesome. I'm sure you'll love her mom she's super nice and she's from France. My first full day of missionary work was really hard. I really just wanted to give up and go home. It was so overwhelming and I was bad at everything. I'm doing better, but it's still really hard and I'm not really good at anything yet and I don't really know what I'm doing. We are teaching a lot of people, but none of them are really progressing. We go knocking on doors at least one hour everyday. Some lady yelled and screamed at us to get off her property. Luckily I'm not too shy and I've been talking to people which is good. Sister Tryon's mom sent us a package which was really nice. The members here are great and they take really good care of us. Being gluten free has been going pretty good so far and I think I'm losing weight. I don't know how I can get you those pictures from my camera since I don't really have access to a computer. Maybe I can mail it to you. So far so good. Only 17 months to go. Right now I'm living at 112 Cable Tower Road Palatka,FL 32177 but it might change in five weeks. I would love as much mail and emails as I can get it really lifts me up when I get to read them on Mondays. I love you guys so much thank you for the prayers.
